Flagstaff Business News reached out to fitness enthusiast Jennifer Kotalik. In addition to working as a RN at Flagstaff Medical Center, Kotalik teaches numerous fitness classes each week. She is passionate about a holistic modality done in bare feet, which can contribute to health and well being. In addition to teaching classes, Kotalik has become a fitness trainer.
1. willPower & grace®: Experience a unique, full-body, barefoot cardio-sculpting workout with the intensity of boot-camp, the self-awareness of yoga, and the discipline of Pilates. The formatted sequences are taught with positive, uplifting philosophy to increase your self-confidence and show you honest results. This sweaty, high-energy workout is for students of all levels. The class and the method are trademarked by the creator Stacey Lei Krauss and have been in existence since 1999.
2. I teach willPower & grace primarily at the Flagstaff Athletic Club several times a week. I also will teach at NAU this fall 2014 semester for the physical education services at the Rolle Activity Center, as a for-credit class. I have brought the workout as a specialty class to the Flagstaff YMCA, Truly Fit, Priya Pilates in Sedona, and Roots mindbody. There is now a team of willPower instructors in Flagstaff who have gone through the training and are also teaching the class.
3. I have been in the fitness industry for 26 years, as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. I added willPower & grace to my repertoire almost three years ago because I was searching for a modality to teach that was more holistic than the traditional group fitness class. I found the class to be a challenging cardiovascular workout, as well as smart, efficient and inspirational. I have had my share of sports related injuries, and this class teaches movement with a whole different philosophy, how to land on your feet.
4. My primary career as a RN at Flagstaff Medical Center allows me to provide healing care to people in this fabulous community. I am an alumna of the NAU nursing program, and feel fortunate to have two careers that I love. In my career as a fitness instructor, I am also a teacher trainer for the willPower Method, guiding instructors who want to learn this method through the education process. I am also a National Presenter for the National Association for Fitness Certification (NAFC,) presenting workshops for the primary group fitness certification. There will be a weekend opportunity here in Flagstaff this August, to participate in both of these programs.
5. Exercise is such a critical aspect of individual health and wellness. Movement of any sort, every day is necessary for optimum well being. When we keep our bodies in motion, whether through a vigorous workout routine, a yoga practice or with the act of simply walking daily, we can alleviate many disease processes and painful arthritic joints. Most people are aware of this, yet our busy lives often preclude the time we give our bodies to stay healthy. Even a brief five minute stretch of the major muscle groups daily makes a difference in how we move through our day.
6. Barefoot wisdom I have learned from the creator of the willPower method Stacey Lei Krauss. She says, “barefoot training allows our feet more freedom, and with room to move, our toes can flex and grip. This increased usage will enhance movement and intrinsic stability from the foot, through the ankle, leg and hip. When we practice smart barefoot exercise a well-trained foot will learn to disperse impact to wider area, dissipating shock and functionally avoiding acute and chronic injuries.”
