March skiing and Spring Break at Arizona Snowbowl brings a packed calendar of family-friendly events. From live music to slope-side entertainment, there’s something fun for everyone.
Alice Cooper Competition Winners to Perform in Flagstaff March 6 & 7
In partnership with Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock, Arizona Snowbowl is bringing some amazing young musicians to Flagstaff.
Last year, the Solid Rock Foundation held its 10th annual Proof Is in the Pudding Contest – a young talent competition for Phoenix’s musically talented youth. Hundreds of Valley musicians competed for the opportunity to perform alongside Alice Cooper at the annual Christmas Pudding concert to benefit Solid Rock and The Rock Teen Center.
On March 6 and 7, last year’s soloist winner and a top ten band competitor are bringing their performances to the mountains of Flagstaff, with concerts at the Gopher Hole at the Weatherford Hotel, and on the Agassiz Deck at Arizona Snowbowl.
With a classic rock sound, the top ten finisher is a band called Vintage Wednesday – a group of Valley teens who came together as a band just two years ago. With a sound rooted in the soul of bands such as Fleetwood Mac, U2, Led Zeppelin and many more, you’ll recognize their original sound as well as their signature twist on some old favorites.
The soloist winner of last year’s competition is Laura Walsh, a country soloist who has commanded the attention of Nashville’s most popular stars. As a down-to-earth Arizona native, some of her favorite venues to perform are San Felipe’s, Tempe Marketplace and many other Arizona locations, including signing the national anthem for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
With FREE admission, be sure to attend both concerts to help raise funds for Solid Rock as well as the chance to enter in a drawing to win a variety of prizes, including a pair of New Belgium Skis and a ROME snowboard, both valued around $700 each.
Snowbowl Hosts Fundraising Concert for Backcountry Scholarship
The Kachina Peaks Avalanche Center (KPAC) is holding its fifth annual Mikee Linville Backcountry Awareness Scholarship Fundraiser on Sunday, March 8. Hang out on the Agassiz Deck Sunday afternoon to watch live performances from several bands across the state, including the local rock band Shindaggers. Grab a bite to eat from Snowbowl’s Agassiz Lodge kitchen and gourmet dessert at the 9500’ Bar and Grille. Plus, enter to win a variety of prizes from local businesses during the raffle and silent auction.
Proceeds from the raffle, silent auction and desserts will go directly to the Mikee Linville Backcountry Awareness Scholarship – a program created by KPAC to educate people about backcountry safety.
Family Fridays to Return in March
Celebrate the end of the week on the slopes! Every Friday in March, Arizona Snowbowl is offering $15 lift tickets, $15 rentals, and $15 group lessons from 2-6 p.m. This means extended skiing time for regular guests and an even more affordable opportunity for families to get on the mountain. Lessons will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Kids ages 4-12 can take family lessons when accompanied by an adult.
McDowell Mountain Music Festival Performances at Snowbowl on March 14
On Saturday, March 14, Arizona Snowbowl guests can get a taste of what’s to come at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in the Valley later this month. Stop by the Agassiz Deck from 1:30-4:30 p.m. to enjoy live performances from several of the festival acts. For more information about the McDowell Mountain Music Festival, visit www.mmmf.com.
March Closes Out with the Heineken Big Air Bag
End the season with some big air! Snowbowl will have the Heineken Big Air Bag inflated during the last two weekends in March for guests to perfect their tricks. The big air bag will be set up Friday through Sunday – March 20-22 and March 27-29. Participants must be 21 or over. The Big Air Bag is no additional cost to skiers and riders on the mountain. FBN
