Feb 23 Is the next scheduled Sedona Chamber of Commerce mixer.  It will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sedona Airport Mesa Grill, 1185 Airport Rd.

Cost is $10.00 per member and $15.00 for non-members. Each mixer is held at a different venue each month to showcase that member’s facilties/services. Twice a year we hold a “food drive” mixer to benefit the Sedona Community Food Bank and we ask that each attendee bring at least 3 non-perishable items in lieu of the entry fee. Also twice a year, mixers are held tradeshow style. This allows our members the opportunity to purchase an exhibition table and promote their products and services to potential new customers. Each mixer attracts between 175 – 250 attendees.

Feb. 2012  The Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, Pepsi and Arizona Snowbowl present the 26th Annual Winterfest Flagstaff, celebrating the magical winter season in our mountain town.

Winterfest is part of the Chamber’s work to create a strong local economy. The celebration runs throughout February and its aim is to promote Flagstaff and attract tourists by raising awareness of the many things to do here in winter, from snowplay to cultural activities and special events.

“Raising awareness of the delights of winter in Flagstaff is a great way to promote our community and bring new customers to local businesses,” said Chamber President/CEO Julie Pastrick.

Winterfest coincides this year with the celebration of Arizona’s centennial and there will be a special concert to mark the event on February 4, the Northern Arizona Centennial Fandango. This year will also be the debut of the Dew Downtown Flagstaff Urban Ski and Snowboard Festival, on the second weekend of the month. This two-day extravaganza will turn San Francisco from Dale to Birch into a snowboarders heaven, with various urban props for grinding, jumping and shredding.

Other events include the traditional Robert Burns Supper, to celebrate the noted Scottish poet, the 2012 Library Quilt Show, as well as concerts and theatrical events. There is even a special Winterfest Brew, which will be tapped Friday, February 3 at Lumberyard Brewing Co.

Feb. 8 The event will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at NAU’s High Country Conference Center.  Arizona will celebrate its 100th year of statehood on February 14, 2012.  Arizona is the 48th state and the last of the contiguous states to enter the Union in 1912. The Arizona Centennial Commission is commemorating the 100th anniversary by collaborating with the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission as well as communities, municipalities and institutions throughout the state. Northern Arizona University is committed to assisting with this celebration by promoting activities to involve students, faculty, staff and community leaders. This presentation will focus on describing the importance of the different parts of a patent and explain how to strategically draft a patent application to provide a strong position for prosecution, broad claims that are difficult to design around, and effective support for litigation.  This presentation will also help individuals to more effectively read and understand the scope of a patent.  Topics such as patent profanity, specific claim language phraseology and feature descriptions will be covered.  Strategies and techniques for the following parts of a patent will be discussed:  Tile, Abstract, Background, Figures, Examples, and Claims.
