Flagstaff’s construction season is in full swing, creating delays throughout the city. ADOT crews also are busy with numerous projects along I-17 between Northern Arizona and Phoenix.
City officials are reporting Beaver Street at Route 66 will be reopened Monday, as BNSF finish concrete and other portions of the project at the railroad crossing.
In other projects, work has begun on Phase 1 of the Switzer Canyon Transmission Main Project which will replace a 57 year-old water main 16-inch water main with a new 20-inch main, in the public roadway. Construction will also include new fire hydrants, water meter relocations and pavement replacement at a total cost of nearly $1 million. There have been numerous water line breaks and other maintenance problems with the old water main, making this a high priority project as funds became available.
This is Phase 1 of a 3 phase project which will take the new transmission main from Route 66 to Turquoise Drive. This phase is expected to be complete by late November, 2013.
Access on Switzer Canyon will be limited to local business traffic and residents. Please use alternate routes if possible or allow for additional travel time in the construction area.
In addition, there are construction projects on the campus of Northern Arizona University, causing delays for people who have business to conduct on campus.
