The Coconino County Planning and Zoning Commission will hear the 2015 Comprehensive Plan Update at its next meeting, which will be held at 5:30 p.m., July 29, 2015 in the meeting room on the first floor of the Coconino County Administration Building at 219 E. Cherry in Flagstaff.
The County has been working on updates to the plan for more than 18 months, and has sought the input of a citizen’s committee, science advisory group, and the general public at more than 15 open houses held around the County. Two new elements to the proposed plan address sustainability and resiliency, as well as economic development, while highlighting issues such as climate change and opportunities to improve quality of life for residents.
The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range plan that sets the vision and policies for land use and development for those areas in the County which are outside of any municipality. All counties within Arizona are required by state statue to update their comprehensive plans every 10 years. It is also important to keep the plan updated to reflect changes that have occurred in the County. The 2003 Comprehensive Plan illustrates the value in collaborative planning based on partnerships and visionary planning guidelines. The updated plan continues to build upon these values while reflecting changes that are occurring throughout the county.
The Commission will consider the updates made to the 2003 Plan at the July 29 hearing and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Board will then hold public hearings in November and December prior to adoption of a plan. A draft of the 2015 Comprehensive Plan updates can be found at www.coconino.az.gov/CompPlan .
