One of the most pivotal meetings about water in the Verde Valley’s history will be held on April 11, 2013. Sponsored by the Verde River Basin Partnership “Is Our Water Budget Broken?” will be from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Camp Verde Multi-Use Complex Auditorium, 37 Camp Lincoln Rd., Camp Verde, Arizona.
The public is encouraged to attend this landmark event which will feature the release of the groundbreaking United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) report: The Impact Of Human Activity On Groundwater and Streamflow 1910 Through 2109 in the Verde Valley, Arizona. Will we have enough water? What can we do to preserve our water resources? How will the results impact me? Attend to discover the answers to these riveting questions.
In April of 2011 scientists and numerical computer modeling experts released their newly developed Northern Arizona Regional Groundwater-Flow Model. The USGS, recognized worldwide for the expertise in model development, has developed similar models throughout Arizona and the United States. The report being released at this presentation uses the model to explore the real effects from 1910 through 2005 on Verde Valley groundwater and streamflow due to groundwater pumping. The presentation will also identify projected effects due to future human stresses to the system within the Verde Valley through 2110.
Similar models are successfully being used throughout Arizona to help predict future effects to our water resources from groundwater pumping. This presentation will be given in a format that is structured so the public understands how past, present and future water management decisions will affect our vital water resources.
