For the third time in three years, Avenues of the World Travel has created a very special fundraiser for the Flagstaff Symphony. Because of our wonderful relationship with AMAWaterways, we are able to offer great options to non-profit organizations in Flagstaff! The Flagstaff Symphony has been taking advantage of these opportunities and to date, has received more than $33,000 in donations.
The first trip on AMAWaterways took more than 40 people down the Danube, where travelers got to stroll through small villages such as Durnstein and sample their delicious apricot products. They tried local wine, beer and food along the way. In timeless Vienna, they enjoyed a Mozart Concert in a historic venue and on most days, local entertainment would come on board their beautiful River Ship. The trip ended in Budapest, which fascinated everyone with its history and impressive architecture and local markets.
This year, the Fundraising Cruise went to Portugal and Spain where the travelers enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Douro and learned about Port Wines; many came back with a new appreciation for it. One of the favorite stops was Salamanca, Spain. Ruled successively by the Celts, Romans, Muslims and Spanish, it’s known for its ornate sandstone architecture and for the Universidad de Salamanca. The city of Porto impressed with their narrow alleys, unique buildings and rows and rows of Port Cellars.
The next fundraiser will take the Symphony Supporters to France. AMAWaterways will cruise from Paris to Normandy and back and this trip will be a highlight for anyone who loves history. You will get to visit the village of Giverny, where Monet lived and worked for 43 years, and Honfleur, a charming French harbor town immortalized by generations of artists. Stroll through Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, then take an unforgettable excursion to the famous Normandy beaches of WWII. Visit Les Andelys, home of Château Gaillard and conclude your journey with a panoramic tour of Paris’s top sights and a visit to the Musee d’Orsay. This wonderful journey will take place on May 6, 2016. For anyone who signs up by Aug. 31, 2015, the Symphony will receive $1,000 as a donation.
Please let us know if you are interested in traveling with fellow Flagstaff Symphony Supporters on this wonderful River! FBN
