Snow Storm Update

The President’s Day weekend storm brought a lot of snow to Northern Arizona, closing highways and I-17 and causing dozens of slide offs and other accidents.

The ski resort, Arizona Snowbowl, is reporting 42 inches of new snow.  Amounts in other areas vary.  One Flagstaff location measured 12 inches and another 15.  A weather spotter in Kachina Village reports 12.4 inches, Parks one foot, Williams 6.4″ and Munds Park 12.5.

Road Update from the AZ Department of Transportation

Two stretches of highways in northern Arizona that had been closed due to heavy snow and icy conditions have reopened after ADOT crews worked overnight to clear them. State Route 89A between Flagstaff and Sedona and US 180 northwest of Flagstaff were opened this morning after ADOT snowplow operators cleared snow, ice and some debris from the roadways.

Interstate 17 remains open to traffic between Flagstaff and the Verde Valley.  The northbound lanes of the interstate were reopened late Sunday afternoon. The highway was closed for several hours Sunday between State Route 179 and Flagstaff due to icy conditions. ADOT crews and state Department of Public Safety officers were kept busy over the weekend responding to numerous incidents where vehicles slid off the highway.
