One ticket will gain lucky visitors access to five distinctive Flagstaff homes at the annual Home Tour sponsored by the Flagstaff Symphony Guild. This year there is a very special historic home on the tour: the Colton House, former home of Museum of Northern Arizona founders Dr. Harold S. Colton and wife Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton. Built in 1929, it is a 6,000 square-foot Spanish colonial revival-style rock lodge constructed by Hopi craftsmen using local materials, malpais rock, Ponderosa pine, and Douglas fir. The Colton House is included in the National Register of Historic Places as an outstanding example of regional architecture featuring clay tiles, incised beams, beehive fireplaces, and wrought iron detailing and, most recently, was named as one of the Flagstaff’s Iconic 50.
Open only for special occasions like this one, the Colton House is exquisitely furnished with Northern Arizona art and Native American artifacts.
The four other homes on the tour range in style and setting, representing the best in Flagstaff home design. There will be live classical and semi-classical music at every home.
Ticket holders can visit any and all of the homes between 10 am and 4 pm on Sat Aug 8th on this self-guided tour. Tickets are available by making a $35 donation to the Symphony Guild. Because this is a no-expense event, all funds received will benefit the Flagstaff Symphony.
Addresses of each house and directions to them will appear on your ticket, which you can purchase from any of the 99 Symphony Guild members or by calling Mary at 928-522-0549.
