I am often asked what I do. Most people realize we have City Council meetings every Tuesday night starting at 4p.m. But what about the rest of the week? I have an office at City Hall – do I use it? Is being mayor a full-time job?
I thought it would be fun to give you a look at a typical week.
Monday: Attend awards ceremony for the Flagstaff bus system; review agenda for tomorrow night; meet with city manager regarding various issues; meet with city attorney regarding various issues; meet with administrative assistant regarding calendar events and proclamations.
Tuesday: Review all reports and materials in preparation for Council meeting; provide video interview for coming Coalition of Cities Conference; Council executive session; Council meeting.
Wednesday: Meet with fire chief; lunch with delegation from Brazilian Olympic Committee; meet with citizens regarding event planning; attend criminal justice group meeting; participate in panel discussion on leadership.
Thursday: Meet with Game and Fish regarding hunting within city limits; lunch with county manager and supervisor; attend meeting regarding alcohol issues in Flagstaff; attend meeting with Southside businesses; dinner with Board of Regents.
Friday: Attend meeting of all county taxing authorities; meet with Chamber of Commerce; welcome speech to business conference; present proclamation at memorial.
Saturday: Ribbon cutting and short speech; lunch with state representative; volunteer appreciation dinner for civic group.
Sunday: Day off – catch up on chores.
Spread over the week about 300 emails and a few more meetings and that is a typical week. Each week, the events, meetings and people are different. That’s what makes it fun and interesting.
Oh, and the pay. I take home $2,000 per month. FBN
