BASIS Flagstaff Welcomes New Head of School

Sean Clark joins BASIS management following four years teaching

(October 17, 2014 – Flagstaff, AZ) – BASIS Flagstaff is thrilled to welcome Sean Clark as new Head of School. Sean has assumed the role with BASIS Flagstaff for the 2014-2015 school year.

Sean previously taught 6th grade Latin and 7th grade World History at BASIS Tucson as well as 7thand 8th grade World History at BASIS Tucson North. He also served as the BASIS subject advisor for World and European History, across all BASIS charter schools.

“When presented with a fantastic opportunity, the decision to leave the classroom and move fully into school management was a difficult one. However, my dedication to teaching, particularly teaching at BASIS, led to my choice to move out of the classroom. Indeed, I came to believe in the mission, vision and academic culture of BASIS so much, that my individual classroom was no longer enough. I wanted to help build and promote that culture in a more direct way, for an entire school community,” Sean said.

Sean earned his Ph.D. in late medieval and early modern European History from the University of Arizona. During his years as a graduate student, he also taught a wide variety of history classes as both a Teaching Assistant and instructor.

“In the months and years to come I will make every effort to support our students and teachers in the very hard work of education. I want our school to be a model of intellectual and community engagement — not just for Flagstaff, or for Arizona, but for the nation and even the world.”

BASIS charter schools were founded in 1998 in Tucson, Arizona, with the goal to raise the level of American education to the highest international standards. The open enrollment, tuition-free public charter schools continue to succeed by hiring teachers who are passionate experts in their field, who instill a lifelong love of learning in their students, and who teach an internationally inspired and benchmarked liberal arts curriculum with a STEM-focus. BASIS.ed now manages sixteen charter schools, including thirteen in Arizona, two in Texas, and one in Washington, D.C.
