What new businesses are coming to town? What new construction is happening? There are always companies looking at Flagstaff as a possible location, but here is what has actually been turned in to the city development office:
REI Sporting Goods will build a new store on half the vacant lot just west of Wildflower Bread Company. The other half of the lot will be Alliance Bank of Arizona, which will move from downtown.
Little America has turned in plans to build an 18-hole golf course to the south of the hotel. There will also be 1,000 new housing units and a much expanded conference facility. This would make Little America a destination resort.
More apartments are being built adjacent to The Grove apartments at Aspen Place. Also at Aspen Place there has been a plan submitted to build a five-story building on the south side of the existing commercial strip (Wildflower, Flagstaff Jean Company, Chicos) that would have retail on the ground floor and four stories of upscale apartments with a parking garage.
The Presidio in the Pines subdivision is finally out of bankruptcy and able to accommodate new construction. Houses have started. There are more than 150 lots in the current phase.
There are several apartment complexes planned including 220 units on West 66 across from Galaxy Diner.
Flagstaff Medical Center is building a 75,000-square-foot office facility on McMillan Mesa up by Basis School.
The proposed Canyon Del Rio subdivision is moving forward. This is on the south side of the Butler/Fourth Street intersection. There are 1,200 residential lots planned plus a commercial center.
You are wondering who is going to occupy all this housing and support all this business. I wonder, too. Obviously, Flagstaff is becoming more attractive and many investors believe this is the place to be. However, it is bringing money from out of town that most helps our economy. Manufacturers and research are critical. FBN
