Officials and community members helped kick off today’s year long celebration of CCC, and its many roles in Northern Arizona. A ceremony held on the Lone Tree campus today, celebrated the college’s many accomplishments, and speakers talked about the future of the institution.
CCC President Leah Bornstein tells Flagstaff Business News, the college is working to provide access to more students in rural Arizona with the intention of helping them reach their educational goals.
CCC has served more than 65,000 learners since opening its doors in 1991. At the first graduation in 1993, there were only three graduates. In the 2010-2011 academic year, 300 students graduated from the College.
A celebration will take place at 11 a.m. September 9th, at 2800 S. Lone Tree Road, Flagstaff. CCC President, Leah L. Bornstein will deliver opening remarks. Coconino County Chairwoman Lena Fowler; District Governing Board Chairman, Patrick Hurley,CCC Foundation President Kevin Stephens, City of Flagstaff Mayor Sara Presler, as well as other City and Country representatives, will also be in attendance.
President Bornstein will unveil a huge timeline banner depicting the most significant milestones of the history of the College during the past 20 years. Lena Fowler will deliver a proclamation. CCC alumni, students, employees and community members are encouraged to attend. Refreshments, including a 20 foot-long sub sandwich, anniversary cake and soft drinks will be served.
CCC District Governing Board Chairman Patrick Hurley said, “The community is encouraged to celebrate with us as Coconino County residents are responsible for the College’s success. The Community College belongs to them. Their generous support has changed the lives of thousands of learners and provided affordable access to higher education for the residents of Coconino County.”
The following week, CCC will have its Foundation Annual Meeting, Awards and an Alumni Breakfast, at 7:30 a.m. Friday September 16th at the Lone Tree Campus Commons. For more information on both events visit the CCC website at: www.coconino.edu.
