The Coconino County Board of Supervisors will begin a nationwide search for its next county manager within the coming weeks.
The position was vacated when longtime county employee and former County Manager Steve Peru retired in November 2011. That month, the Board appointed then-Deputy County Manager Mike Townsend to serve as interim county manager until a permanent replacement could be selected.
“Selecting our next permanent county manager is an important responsibility that the Board of Supervisors does not take lightly,” said Board Chairwoman Liz Archuleta. “Decisions made by the county manager ultimately impact multiple lives within the County. Because of that, we are committed to ensuring an open and transparent selection process.”
The County hopes to select a recruiter within the coming weeks to begin the nationwide search. As finalists are selected, county administrators, staff and the public will play a role in providing input into the selection process.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the County,” Supervisor Archuleta said. “While the Board will make the ultimate decision on the hiring of a county manager, we do not want to do this alone and look forward to a comprehensive, inclusive and public process.”
The Board hopes to have a permanent county manager selected by early summer.
