You’ve planted your seeds, made your beds, nurtured your plants through the perils of sprouthood and now you spend your time watering and feeding.
You’ve learned that special attention to pinching, pruning and bug watching will extend the life of your pretty little plants.
What a fine gardener you’ve become! As you linger among the blooms and notice a bright red ladybug busily traveling an expanse of broad green leaves, you realize it’s a place for pause. Maybe you didn’t expect it, but you’ve grown quite attached to your garden. With your own two hands you’ve created pleasant ambiance. Your garden has become your “happy place” and before the season dashes away you find yourself spending as much time as possible in that special place that brings you joy.
Creating gardening ambiance that is peaceful and relaxing isn’t as hard as you might think. With the addition of a few plants, accessories or fixtures you can enhance your outdoor experience and create your very own “happy place” in a matter of a few days. Here are a few ideas to help get you started.
– Water is the music of nature. It can be trickled over stones, cascaded from great heights to crash on rocks or meander through a path to a pool of koi and hardy water lilies. The addition of a water feature in your yard is both soothing and soulful.
– A sunny perennial border of flowers can be formal or informal, square, rectangular or round. With strategic placement and selection, plants can produce a parade of color throughout spring and fall. Color themes can enhance your mood too. An all white garden would be perfect for a backyard wedding, or perhaps an impressionist color harmony such as yellow and purple, orange and blue or pink and white. An enticing perennial garden design includes two parallel borders with a grass path leading to a focal point such as a gazebo or birdbath.
– Strolling down a row of squash can be just as invigorating as you revel in the miracle of nature. The ambiance of a vegetable garden can be enhanced with raised beds and rows of vegetables planted in escalating heights. An edible landscape combined with ornamental effects from tall waving grasses is a wonderful way to draw people into the wonder of your garden.
– Creating natural pathways is easy to do, too. Decorative bark, pebbles and pavers will create movement and flow through your garden without disrupting your carefully planted plants.
– And, theme gardens are, of course. a great way to create an environment that makes you feel like you are a world away. A Japanese Garden including elements of Zen or Feng Shui can make the space feel magical. Or, consider an Italian Renaissance garden filled with fountains and statues.
At Warner’s Nursery, we specialize in creating environments and it is our hope that everyone gets a chance to connect with nature, in the beauty of their backyard where gardening ambiance is inspiring, relaxing and enjoyable. Remember, gardening is a joy, not a chore, so indulge yourself and create an environment that will take away the worries of the day.
