The Civic Service Institute (CSI) at NAU, which has coordinated National Service programs such as AmeriCorps and Senior Corps for over 30 years, recently received additional funds to explore new service opportunities in Coconino County. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family awarded CSI $48,000 for a planning grant launching on September 1st, 2020.
This grant is designed to build a network of partner organizations and committees dedicated to increasing environmental stewardship and education in northern Arizona. In the coming months, CSI and its partners will explore opportunities for collaboration and ways in which AmeriCorps members will serve to support these efforts locally. In the fall of 2021, partner organizations will have the opportunity to host AmeriCorps members who will focus on improving educational and outreach resources, increasing
environmentally conscious practices in northern Arizona, and much more. Ramsay Shannon, CSI Program Coordinator who helped author the grant application said, “I am excited to contribute to my hometown and community through this new endeavor. I am looking forward to continuing collaborative efforts and building new relationships with environmentally focused organizations in Coconino County who are dedicated to increasing environmental education and community involvement.”
We are currently in search of partner organizations and community leaders interested in helping CSI and NAU support these local efforts to create stronger and more sustainable communities. If you are interested in engaging in this work, please contact Mr. Shannon at (928) 523-1571 or Ramsay.Shannon@nau.edu.
