Flagstaff Cultural Partners (FCP) is hiring two new Deputy Directors, Elizabeth Vogler and Elizabeth Hellstern, both from Flagstaff, Arizona.
Elizabeth Vogler returns to FCP in a new role, Deputy Director of Community Engagement, that will include management of community programs and events, including Flagstaff’s popular First Friday ArtWalk, as well as FCP’s many concerts and performances. Ms. Vogler comes to FCP from her most recent position as Assistant Director at the Arboretum at Flagstaff. For the past seven years, Elizabeth Hellstern has served as Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator for the College of Arts and Letters at NAU. In this position, she promoted over 550 yearly music, art, film, theatre, and speaking events to the university and Flagstaff community. She joins FCP as the new Deputy Director of the Coconino Center for the Arts.
Flagstaff Cultural Partners, the non-profit arts agency for the City of Flagstaff that manages the Coconino Center for the Arts, recently underwent a strategic re-organization in order to strengthen its work in the community. Over the past six years under the guidance of Executive Director John Tannous, FCP has expanded its programming by 400%.
“We’ve grown a great deal, and expanded the ways that we serve our community,” says Tannous. “In working with the Board of Directors and members of staff, along with input from the community, we found that it was ideal for the organization to restructure in order to build upon our recent growth. We’ve brought in two dynamic, forward-thinking leaders to help us maximize resources and better expand the role of art, culture and science, in service to the citizens of Flagstaff and Coconino County.”
Ms. Vogler is not new to Flagstaff Cultural Partners; she has been involved with FCP since 2006, serving on staff and then as a volunteer. She also served on the Board of Directors in 2011-2012. Ms. Vogler holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ithaca College and a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from Northern Arizona University. Ms. Vogler recently served as secretary of the Board of Directors of The Northern Arizona Book Festival and is currently on the advisory board for Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona. Ms. Vogler enjoys travel, running, and competing in triathlons.
Ms. Hellstern is well-connected in the arts and culture scene in Northern Arizona. In addition to her work at NAU, she served as co-chair of the Beautification and Public Arts Commission at the City of Flagstaff from 2009-2012. Ms. Hellstern holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s of Arts degree in Applied Communication from Northern Arizona University. She is currently an MFA student in Creative Writing at NAU. .In the past, she has been Arts Editor of Flag Live, served on the Flagstaff Arts and Business Alliance Board, and was Media Coordinator Lead Volunteer for the Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival. Her commitment to the arts and the artists, as well as her belief that both are an integral facet of a healthy community, is a driving force for her career and her life.
In her spare time, Ms. Hellstern embraces moments of natural beauty and enjoys simple pleasures with her son.
Ms. Vogler began in her new role at FCP on July 15, 2013. Ms. Hellstern is expected to begin work at FCP in September.
In addition to hundreds of events at the Coconino Center for the Arts, FCP manages many programs for the larger cultural community. They include: First Friday ArtWalk, Summer Nights on (Heritage) Square, the Art & Science Fund grant program, the new ArtBox Institute, two annual Navajo Rug Auctions, and concerts at the Arboretum at Flagstaff, among others. Last summer, FCP released “Arts & Economic Prosperity: the Economic Impact of the Non-profit Arts & Sciences”, a study that measured the economic value of the non-profit arts and sciences sector in Flagstaff.
