Flagstaff Music Festival

May 29, 2012 By techsuperadmin

The Flagstaff Music Festival will be celebrating its tenth anniversary June 9th and 10th by highlighting some of the region’s musical talent.  The Brothers Gow, Wade Lashley & the Rounders, and Sambátuque are among the 11 eclectic acts set to perform at the free, family-friendly event on Heritage Square in historic downtown Flagstaff.

Local artists, crafters and other vendors will also be on the Square, along with vendors selling food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  Tickets for the Festival’s first fundraising raffle – with the top prize a spectacular $1,200 electric guitar – will also be on sale.

The Saturday lineup begins at noon with the high-energy rhythm, dance and drums of Sambátuque, followed by the Naked Ape Show, and the Porchlights.  Then, Stan Clarke’s Psyche’s Playground backed up by Jim DeBusk will play from 4:45- 6:00.  At 6:30 p.m. the jazzy vibes of the Tyrell Sweeten Element usher in the evening, and at 8:30 p.m. the Brothers Gow will rock the square and light the night.

At noon Sunday The Knockabouts kick off the afternoon with some raucous and rowdy Celtic music.  Them Savages, Gap-Toothed Djinn and Isrobel round out the afternoon, and at 6:30 p.m. Wade Lashley and the Rounders take the stage to close the Festival with “roots to rock” country-influenced sounds bound to get toes tapping and shoes dancing.

The winning raffle tickets will be drawn Sunday evening.  Top prize is a DBZ Bolero AB+ Black Cherry electric guitar valued at $1,200 donated by Arizona Music Pro; other prizes include a Romance Package from the Radisson Woodlands Hotel and a gift basket from Bookmans.  Tickets are available before the Festival weekend at Arizona Music Pro, and during the event at the Festival merchandise tent.  The tent will also offer the Festival’s “Sounds from 7,000 Feet – Vol. 2,” a compilation of 16 songs donated  by Flagstaff bands, for sale, as well as CDs and merchandise from local bands.

The Flagstaff Music Festival, “Where Locals Come to Play,” is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Flagstaff music and Flagstaff as a musical destination.  Last year’s two-day event attracted over 2,000 attendees who met up with friends, danced, hula hooped, shopped, dog watched and more on Heritage Square.  Sambátuque and other drum and dance groups started the 2011 Festival with joyful celebration, and Whiskey Rodeo, Deepa, INI and other acts kept the momentum going until LowCash completed the final set.

This year’s event will benefit Radio Free Flagstaff, which actively supports live music in our community through monthly Artwalk benefit shows at The Green Room.  Arizona Music Pro, the Babbitt Family, Golden Eagle Distributors, The Green Room and the Monte Vista Hotel are the featured sponsors of the 2012 Festival, so please join us in thanking them for their support of this community event and the Flagstaff music scene.  We are also grateful for the support of the City of Flagstaff BBB Funds and Flagstaff Cultural Partners.
