Flagstaff Medical Center welcomes new pediatric intensivist Susan Moore Haefner, M.D., F.A.A.P., to its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). As a pediatric intensivist, Dr. Haefner specializes in caring for critically ill and injured children. Her areas of expertise include pediatric trauma resuscitation and management, advanced critical care stabilization and management, advanced ventilation techniques and cardiac critical care.
As the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Northern Arizona, the FMC’s PICU provides care to critically ill children and their families, allowing them to stay close to home. The four PICU beds are located adjacent to FMC’s 10 Pediatric beds within the secure Pediatric unit. The PICU allows FMC to provide more comprehensive pediatric services for patients who range in age from just a few weeks old to 18 years old.
Prior to joining FMC, Dr. Haefner worked in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit at Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. She earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She completed her internship and residency at the Pediatric Residency Training Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, where she also served as chief resident. Dr. Haefner completed a fellowship in the Pediatric Critical Care unit at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
