The state is facing a critical need to hire and retain healthcare workers.
In 2025 and 2026, Governor Katie Hobbs proclaimed March 18 as Health Workforce Well-Being Day. By recognizing the essential work of healthcare professionals and the urgent need to address burnout and shortages, Hobbs’ proclamation strengthened statewide efforts focused on workforce wellbeing.
The proclamation will be read on the House floor at 1:15, this Wednesday, March 18th.
In 2025, state lawmakers passed House Bill 2173, supporting healthcare worker’s mental health by reducing stigma and enhancing opportunities for wellbeing. The law prevents boards and licensing agencies from asking whether an applicant has sought counseling or other mental health support.
Who: Arizona health leaders, clinicians, and policymakers
Where: Arizona State Capitol, Basement Room
When: 11a.m. to 1 p.m., March 18, 2026
Why this Matters:
In addition to staggering numbers of healthcare workers reporting burnout, Arizona’s shortage of nurses, doctors, and other professionals is expected to rise significantly in the next five years.
Arizona’s lawmakers should be recognized for supporting its healthcare workforce by passing HB2173 and instituting systemwide reforms.
Frontline clinicians, public health leaders, and organizational representatives will be available for interviews on issues impacting healthcare access across Arizona.
