With the holiday season here, Flagstaff’s neighborhoods are being converted into twinkling landscapes with festive lights on trees and homes. This year, trade in your old incandescent holiday lights for highly efficient LED holiday lights. LED lights are 85% more efficient and last 100 times longer than traditional incandescent lights.
To help reduce energy costs, the City of Flagstaff’s Sustainability Program has partnered with APS and HomCo Lumber and Hardware to provide energy efficient holiday lights at a discounted price. When you bring in a strand of traditional holiday lights to “swap,” you are eligible to purchase a strand of white or multi-colored LED holiday lights for only $3 plus tax.

Since 2008, the Annual LED Holiday Light Swap has provided 5,400 boxes of LED holiday lights to over 1,400 households with an estimated savings of $5,500 in utility costs. Over the last 5 years 747,350 traditional incandescent lights have been collected and recycled. All lights collected during this year’s event will be recycled through the City’s Hazardous Product Center and electronics recycler E-Waste Harvesters.
