After more than 13 years as Coconino County’s Treasurer, Bonny Lynn stepped down from the office today and was confirmed as the County’s next Chief Financial Officer.
The County Board of Supervisors accepted Lynn’s resignation effective today, June 3.
“Time and again, our residents have entrusted Bonny to serve as their treasurer,” said County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Ryan “Her attention to detail on all financial matters gives us great confidence that she’ll continue her dedication to helping ensure the County remains on the right financial course.”
In concurrence with state statute, the Board will appoint a new County Treasurer to serve out the remainder of the term until Dec. 31, 2016. A recruitment process for the position will begin June 16 and will include an interview process with the Board of Supervisors and a public forum.
Until a new treasurer is appointed, Chief Deputy Treasurer Cheri Kiefer will serve as treasurer to perform the necessary duties within the office.
Lynn was first elected County Treasurer in November 2000.
The Treasurer’s Office is responsible for billing and collecting annual property tax levies of $134 million on behalf of 46 taxing jurisdictions within the County. The office also serves as steward over a public funds portfolio of $200 million, with total annual disbursements of $334 million and total annual receipts of $366 million in fiscal year 2013.
“It has been an honor and pleasure to serve our county residents as treasurer for more than a decade,” Lynn said. “I’ve learned a great deal from visiting and working with our residents, businesses and government partners in that time. My dedication to our residents will carry on as I continue to serve the County in my new role as Finance Director.”
In addition to County Treasurer, Lynn previously served as administrative services director with the Northern Arizona Council of Governments; purchasing and risk management director for City of Federal Way, Wash. and Coconino County; and business manager for Northern Arizona University.
Lynn brings professional certifications in human resources, risk management, purchasing management and public procurement. She has a master’s degree in public administration and bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in business administration from NAU. Lynn completed coursework for her PhD. in political science in 2002.
