Flagstaff’s Kaci Heins, a sixth grade science teacher at Northland Preparatory Academy in Flagstaff, has been named the 2015 Middle School Science Teacher of the Year.
The Arizona Science Teachers Association recognized Heins’s extraordinary efforts to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, including writing grants to fund the robotics program, sending students to near space through the high altitude balloon program and submitting a student experiment to the International Space Station.
In fact, every year during Heins’s final evaluation, her administration cautions her to not burn herself out. “This will never happen because I am doing what I love, and that is educating sixth graders about science and how our world works,” she said. FBN
