Tuesday, the Flagstaff Fire Department (FFD) responded to the area of N. Turquoise Dr. and Switzer Canyon for a report of a small fire in the front yard of a residence. Upon arrival, crews found at least 4 separate fires that had been started in the front yards of two residences on N Switzer Canyon Dr. There were witnesses on scene who had extinguished the fires prior to the arrival of the fire department. The fires ranged in sizes from about 5’x5’ to 2’x2’.
An investigation was conducted by FFD Fire Investigators and the Flagstaff Police Department. The investigation revealed that these fires were intentionally set. This case is under investigation at this time.
There were no injuries to civilians of Firefighters as a result of these fires. Damage was minimal and contained to vegetation in the front yards of the residences.
During red flag days (high winds and low humidity) fire danger is extremely volatile. The FFD would like to remind the public to immediately report any suspicious activity to the proper authority.
