U.S. Representative Paul Gosar is announcing he will seek reelection in a district other than his home base of Flagstaff. Arizona’s districts have been re-drawn, putting the GOP stronghold of Yavapai County in District Four and creating a more competitive Congressional District One. Gosar will face Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, and possibly State Senator Ron Gould of Lake Havasu City.
One-term Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick has been campaigning for her former position since just after Congressman Gosar took office. She has been actively fundraising and reportedly has more than $350,000 on hand and zero debt. Despite a strong showing in Coconino County in the 2010 election, Kirkpatrick was defeated by Gosar, in part because his strong support in Yavapai County.
