The Shadows Foundation, who is hosting a celebrity golf tournament August 27 and 28, got a major boost from the Pepsi Amphitheater at Fort Tuthill.
Organizers helped raise $12,000 for the Shadows Foundation of Flagstaff, an organization that provides assistance to those financially affected by life-threatening disease.
Moments before Sheryl Crow took the stage Thurs., Aug 4, for a memorable performance at Pepsi Amphitheater, $12,000 was raised through an auction of two personally signed guitars by Ms. Crow, with all proceeds benefiting the Shadows Foundation.
“What an incredible night!” exclaimed Vicki Burton, founder and president of Shadows Foundation. “To have two of our local residents show their support to Shadows in such a generous way was overwhelming. Working closely by referral Shadows will receive up to four applications per week from our local ACS office and AOA alone. This funding will enable us to continue to provide to so many on a local level where it’s needed.”
James Martinez of Flagstaff, and Mike and Nikki Groff of Wallick and Volk, also in Flagstaff, made the winning bids for the keepsake guitars – each bidding $6,000 in a fast-paced live auction from the stage. Both matched the highest bid which also earned them the chance to meet Ms. Crow personally.
The pre-show auction was among several instances this summer where funds were generated for local charities at Pepsi Amphitheater at Fort Tuthill Park, continuing a tradition of R Entertainment North, the venue management company. R Entertainment North conducts brief, onstage memorabilia auctions whenever circumstances allow, and also carves out a role for local nonprofit beneficiaries whenever possible, for example, Friends of Coconino County benefited from the Chris Isaak concert; Flagstaff’s Sanctuary International was awarded $2,000 at the Oak Ridge Boys performance; KNAU-FM benefited from A Prairie Home Companion, June 4; and Children’s Miracle Network was beneficiary of the Weird Al Yankovic performance, June 9.

The Shadows Foundation is a Flagstaff-based nonprofit that provides financial assistance for people in need, especially when people are facing threatening disease and illness. During the past five months, 41 individuals have received financial help and services.
Shadows Foundation, started by Vicki Burton about 18 months ago, has made great progress. Burton has collaborated with private donors and local businesses. Next month’s golf tournament is another important fundraising opportunity.
