Regional Airports Receiving Grant Monies

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., is announcing more than $2.2 million in transportation grants for regional airports in Safford, San Manuel, the Grand Canyon and Grand Canyon West. The grants will help these District One communities upgrade their facilities and conduct hazard-assessment studies. Details are below:

  • Grand Canyon National Park Airport will receive $90,000 to conduct a Wildlife Hazard Assessment to identify the wildlife species observed and assess their numbers, locations, local movement, and daily/seasonal activities. Read more about the Grand Canyon grant here.
  • Grand Canyon West Airport will receive $71,250 to conduct a Wildlife Hazard Assessment to identify the wildlife species observed and assess their numbers, locations, local movement, and daily/seasonal activities. Read more about the Grand Canyon West grant here.
    • Safford Regional Airport will receive $2 million to rehabilitate existing apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life. Read more about the Safford grant here.
    • San Manuel Airport will receive $150,000 to conduct a Wildlife Hazard Assessment to identify the wildlife species observed and assess their numbers, locations, local movement, and daily/seasonal activities. Read more about the San Manuel grant here.

Kirkpatrick, who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said, “These regional airports contribute to our local economies and our quality of life. Improving their infrastructure helps strengthen Arizona’s rural communities.”
