Flagstaff Business News had the opportunity recently to visit with Pam Baldwin, who is opening Elden Peak Properties this month. Baldwin has several decades in the business and she says she looks forward to her new location at 8985 N. Highway 89 on the corner of Hwy 89 and Silver Saddle.
1) How many years have you been selling real estate in Flagstaff?
I was licensed in 1983 and have spent the majority of my real estate career in Flagstaff for a total of 31 years. I sold in Tucson for a couple of years.
2) What is one of your favorite real estate stories?
There are some great stories…… crawling over a wood fence and through a doggie door in a dress, panty hose and heels because the buyers had come from out of town to see this one particular home and the key wouldn’t work. Other favorites; dropping the house key down between the slates of the deck, breaking the key off in the door knob, chasing families’ prized pets through the neighborhood, stepping out of the car to watch it slide down the icy driveway into a pine tree, backing out of a drive and running the car into a culvert with a client in the car. Thankfully the contractor of the home drove up and picked the car up out of the ditch. Another favorite when showing property, an un-neutered male goat chased a client around the property and she was in heels and a knit dress. We couldn’t stop laughing. One of my favorite stories however is involving a co-worker who was out showing property. One of the homes didn’t have a real estate sign on it and the instructions were to enter through the backdoor as it would be unlocked and no one would be home. To agent’s surprise and the homeowner’s surprise, he was in the wrong house.
3) In your opinion, what makes a Realtor stand out from the crowd?
Good question. There was one here advertising in a Superman outfit for awhile. I would say he stood out. Professionally, I believe an agent who stands out is one that treats people well, inclusive of clients and in the industry as a whole such as co-workers, title people, lenders, home inspectors and other agents. They have a good referral business as they are respected in the field.
4) What would you like for a client of yours to say about you?
I would like for my clients to say that working together was a good experience and they would trust referring me to their friends, family or other clients.
5) What advice do you have for someone just starting out in business (not necessarily real estate)?
My best advice for starting out in business is to have a plan. Set goals and know what you’re aiming for. Be realistic with a business plan. Figure the expenses and income potential. Dedicate yourself and be committed to your priorities. Educate yourself and find good mentors. Know the power of a personal referral. Enjoy the process. Have an exit plan.
