Snowbowl Construction Progressing Despite Protests
Construction is ongoing this summer along parts of Snowbowl Road, as the Flagstaff area ski resort management works to build infrastructure for snowmaking. The Coconino County Sheriff's office is reporting the arrests of several people protesting construction at Snowbowl. On Saturday, three people were arrested for trespass and disorderly conduct. Construction Beginning Along Snowbowl Road
Construction is expected to begin this month along a segment of Snowbowl Road (Forest Road 516), as crews clear trees and build the snowmaking infrastructure for the ski resort. More than six miles of water pipeline needs to be installed so the reclaimed water can be transported up the mountain. AZ Snowbowl Wins Another National Safety Award
The National Ski Area Association (NSAA) announced that the Arizona Snowbowl has won the prestigious "Best Overall Safety Award" for ski areas across the nation with less than 250,000 skier visits. This is the third consecutive year the resort has won this award. Additionally, Snowbowl participated in NSAA's 12th Annual National Safety Week, which was held January 15 - 23, 2011. Successful Season for Arizona Snowbowl
Arizona Snowbowl is closed for the ski season which lasted into April. There were 102 ski days and 266 inches of snow. During the recent closing ceremonies at the resort near Flagstaff, skiers and snowboarders celebrated the long season. “It has turned out to be a surprise season. Snow Storm Update
The President's Day weekend storm brought a lot of snow to Northern Arizona, closing highways and I-17 and causing dozens of slide offs and other accidents. The ski resort, Arizona Snowbowl, is reporting 42 inches of new snow. Amounts in other areas vary. One Flagstaff location measured 12 inches and another 15. Nordic Center Reporting Lots of Snow
While Arizona Snowbowl north of Flagstaff is reporting between 33-48 new inches of the white stuff with more expected this weekend, the Flagstaff Nordic Center has also received plenty of snow. The Nordic Center's Tim Allen tells FBN they have enough snow to keep skiing at the resort viable through the end of March at least. After a decade of planning and years of being on hold, Arizona Snowbowl is moving forward with snowmaking.
