I’m thrilled to share some good news about all the wonderful businesses, organizations and projects the City of Flagstaff has been able to help with grants provided through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). As we all emerged from the throes of COVID, this funding was a small bit of much-needed economic relief. Through our discussions with local businesses and non-profits, the City Council determined community priorities in need of attention and assistance and that fit into the parameters of … [Read more...] about Supporting Small Businesses, Organizations, Projects through ARPA Funding

Collaborative Efforts Underway to Keep Flagstaff Safe from Wildfire, Floods
Hot and dry weather renews our concerns about destructive wildland fires. They can start in an instant and our strong winds can quickly cause them to grow, sometimes taking them out of the control of our firefighters. What’s being done to protect our community and ensure that fire in the surrounding forests is helping to keep them healthy instead of scorching everything in its path and leaving the soil hydrophobic, resulting in flooding? Encouraging Diverse Voices
The City of Flagstaff is proud of the work we’ve done to include more and diverse voices in all aspects of decision-making. The purpose of this annual trip is to keep Flagstaff’s needs front and center and to pursue funding for various projects. Councilmember Lori Matthews, … [Read more...] about Communicating Flagstaff’s Needs
Tracking Legislation that May Impact Flagstaff
Each year, the Flagstaff City Council adopts state and federal legislative priorities that drive our advocacy and the work of the city’s lobbyists. Our state priorities include forest health, transportation, affordable housing, workforce development, early childhood education, clean energy, rural broadband access, regulation of investor-owned short-term rentals, and protecting state-shared revenues. Our federal priorities include funding for completing the Rio de Flag flood control project, … [Read more...] about Tracking Legislation that May Impact Flagstaff
Getting to Know Flagstaff’s Mayoral Candidates
On Nov. 8, local residents will elect the next Flagstaff mayor. If more than two candidates file nominating petitions, then a primary election will first take place on Aug. 2, to narrow down the list to two. To run, candidates must first file a Candidate Statement of Interest Form with the City of Flagstaff clerk, then turn in nomination papers and petitions with signatures by April 4. As of Feb. 1, three people have submitted the Statement of Interest Form: current Flagstaff Mayor Paul Deasy, … [Read more...] about Getting to Know Flagstaff’s Mayoral Candidates
