It is estimated that for every person counted in the Census, almost $3,000 in federal funding comes back to our communities. In 2000 and 2010, the Coconino County population was undercounted, costing the area millions of dollars. This resulted in the money for school lunch programs, transportation infrastructure and housing being appropriated to other parts of the country. Concerns Over Redistricting
Message from Carl Taylor, Coconino County District One Supervisor: I wanted to make sure that you are aware that the County supervisorial districts have to be redrawn as a result of the census results. This is a requirement of the Dept. of Justice and is quite involved. Salient guidelines are as follows: 1. Draw districts of equal population.
