A Northern Arizona University 10-year development plan calls for building three dorms to house 1,200 students, a new campus gateway and other improvements to usher in a “smart campus” of the future. Building all the projects in the master plan would cost more than $2 billion, said NAU spokeswoman Kimberly Ann Ott. “As a result, the specific timing of projects will largely be dependent on opportunities to identify and generate resources,” she said. New on-campus dormitories would address … [Read more...] about Creating a Smart Campus

Microsoft Giant Becomes a Lumberjack
Although he may not go to work with an axe, computer software and hardware giant Bill Gates will forevermore be known as a Lumberjack. The Microsoft co-founder delivered a rare commencement address at Northern Arizona University on Saturday, May 13 and received his honorary doctorate. “I cannot wait to see how you will drive progress around the world,” Gates said to a Skydome full of excitement and regalia. Quintessential Newsman Trained in a News Field of Dreams
Long before Google, Alexa, Instagram and the internet, news was gathered through miles of legwork and worn-out shoes. A journalist was only as good as the relationships he cultivated and the sixth sense he developed. Reporting and uncovering stories required a tenacious and genuine interest in people, places and things that mattered, and a relentless hunger to know one more thing and to get it right before going to press. Ray Newton, a savvy street kid in the San Francisco Bay area in the … [Read more...] about Quintessential Newsman Trained in a News Field of Dreams
