The Flagstaff Local – My Actions Matter movement was supported in the first phase by more than 800 residents. More than 225 weekly prizes were distributed and more than 40 businesses have been involved as partners. City staff recently randomly selected the Grand Reward winners as the initial phase of the program concluded. This community movement encourages and celebrates residents that complete actions in the Flagstaff city limits supporting the following pillars: shop Flagstaff, volunteer, be eco-friendly, donate, support education, mentor and vote.
Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans said, “Congratulations to…our Flagstaff Local winners! They set an excellent example of supporting our community through their actions and how to make a difference in Flagstaff to improve the quality of life for all.”
The initiative was established in November 2019 to encourage support of our community within the seven pillars. Residents participating between November 2019 through May 2020 entered weekly prize drawings and the names of three lucky winners were drawn for the top prizes.
Myrna Rodriguez Carter is the Grand Prize winner of $1,000 provided by Pepsi.
Doug Arnett is the Second Prize winner of a pair of bikes provided by Flag Bike Revolution.
Mark Cox is the Third Prize winner of office equipment provided by Quality Connections.
Grand prize winner Myrna Rodriguez Carter started logging her actions of volunteering and shopping locally when Flagstaff Local – My Actions Matter first launched. She entered most of her points on the “shop Flagstaff” pillar and plans to donate a portion of the prize money. Carter appreciated that this encouraged local support of businesses and said, “Thank you to the city. It is always good to try and encourage using our stores because the heart of Flagstaff is being quaint and keeping our character.”
Flagstaff Local winner Mark Cox said, “I was drawn to participate because I was able to support local businesses. My wife and I like to eat out a lot, so this was an easy way to get points and support our local community by eating out and shopping local.”
There are many benefits to residents when one chooses to shop in Flagstaff. For instance, a local purchase generates revenue that helps support parks and recreation, public safety, the workforce and much more. Specifically, purchasing a cup of coffee from a neighborhood coffee house, or a vehicle from a Flagstaff dealership, directly results in collected taxes – providing for better Flagstaff parks and beautification programs. We urge you to continue this movement and take the pledge at flagstafflocal.com, a secured website. It’s important to note that there will be no selling of information like email addresses.
Flagstaff residents accomplish great things every single day and can continue by taking the pledge and logging their actions at flagstafflocal.com. Signing up is a three-step process:

Once a login has been established, residents then record their support of a pillar by uploading receipts or photos.
The City of Flagstaff and community partners launched the Flagstaff Local – My Actions Matter movement to highlight the importance of keeping our collective actions local. City of Flagstaff Economic Vitality Director Heidi Hansen said, “I’m so happy for our major prize winners and all winners during this six-month rewards program. Whether you shopped Flagstaff, donated, volunteered, mentored others, voted, supported education, or made eco-friendly changes, you showed you are a true Flagstaff Local. Please continue to support our seven action pillars and know that what you do matters. We came together, shared our actions, and continued to be the city where people visit, discover, grow and thrive. We will be coming back soon with other fun reasons to continue to log your actions even though our initial rewards program has concluded. For now, take the first step by taking the pledge at flagstafflocal.com.” FBN
