Join North Country HealthCare on Wednesday, July 18th at the grand showing of Flagstaff’s first mobile medical unit. The grand showing will take place between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm at North Country HealthCare’s 4th Street campus in Flagstaff. In June of 2011, North Country HealthCare was awarded $471,000 from the US Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Primary Care to provide school based health services via a mobile medical unit. Since then, North Country HealthCare and the Flagstaff Unified School District have been working together to develop a plan for providing healthcare services to schools throughout the district.
Beginning this fall, the North Country HealthCare mobile medical unit will be providing healthcare to students at Killip on Mondays, Kinsey on Tuesdays, Project New Start & the Family Resource Center on Wednesdays and Thomas on Thursdays. Children can be seen for an unexpected illness, chronic disease management (diabetes, asthma, etc.), well child visits, immunizations and sports physicals.
The North Country HealthCare mobile medical unit is a 41ft, 33,000lbs Freightliner. The two exam room mobile unit is diesel powered and equipped with key green features such as LED lighting, solar panels and hybrid generators as well as telemedicine equipment, a functional lab area and is ADA accessible.
The unit will be staffed by a nurse practitioner, program supervisor/medical assistant and a driver/front office support staff member.
