Coconino County was recently awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the fiscal year 2011 budget. The Coconino County Board of Supervisors officially presented the award to the Finance Department’s Budget Division on May 23, 2011.
The award represents a significant achievement for Coconino County and reflects the county’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the award, a governing body must exceed nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories to receive the award by the GFOA. Coconino County’s budget received 44 outstanding ratings in the review categories. Receipt of this honor marks the tenth consecutive year that Coconino County has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
“It is my honor to recognize the hard work of our finance and budget staff for their continued dedication to Coconino County’s budget process,” said Mandy Metzger, Chair of the Coconino County Board of Supervisors. “The employees in those departments display the upmost professionalism, while ensuring Coconino County has an outstanding and transparent budget process.”
