The Flagstaff City Council has offered the position of City Attorney to the current Interim City Attorney Michelle D’Andrea. Council is expected to approve her contract at its meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
Mayor Gerald Nabours said the finalists interviewed by the City Council were all outstanding which made the selection process a tough one. “Michelle is a known quantity and it is clear that the Council is comfortable with her. The other candidates are also superb and we had to see how Michelle measured up, and she obviously did very well,” Nabours said.
D’Andrea has been serving as the Interim City Attorney for the City of Flagstaff since Rosemary Rosales left in February. She was hired as Flagstaff’s Deputy City Attorney in June of 2012, having served as Deputy Coconino County Attorney for the previous three years. D’Andrea has also worked for Flagstaff as a Senior Assistant Attorney, was a Deputy County Attorney for Maricopa County for nearly 6 years and was an Associate Attorney for Mangum, Wall Stoops & Warden. D’Andrea enjoys the challenges and opportunities involved in municipal government law. “I am honored to work for the citizens of Flagstaff as their City Attorney,” D’Andrea said.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Texas and received her Juris Doctor Cum Laude from Hamline University School of Law.
The City received 17 applications for the position of City Attorney. Telephone interviews were conducted with 10 candidates and 6 were invited to be a part of the in-person interviews last week.
