After a thorough interview process, including more than 50 applicants, Coconino County selected Marie Peoples to serve as the organization’s next Chief Health Officer over the County Public Health Services District (CCPHSD).
Peoples joins the County from Cole County, Mo., where she most recently served as director of Public Health. While in Missouri, Peoples gained a strong reputation and an impressive history of community and statewide leadership.
“I’m certain Marie will continue to build on the foundation of successes and improve our Public Health Services District,” Coconino County Manager Cynthia Seelhammer said. “Her expertise managing critical health programs will ensure we are providing the best services for our residents.”
Peoples began as Chief Health Officer this week. The position was vacated by Barbara Worgess last fall and Kimbal Babcock has served as interim officer since then.
Peoples has Master’s degrees in both Public Health and Sociology/Criminal Justice. She also has a PhD in Public Health Epidemiology.
Peoples topped several other finalists for the position. Each candidate recently underwent an extensive, day-long interview process before several panels, which consisted of dozens of local stakeholders and county employees.
“I am delighted to officially be part of the Coconino County community,” Peoples said.
“It was immediately evident to me that Coconino County residents and the CCPHSD staff are passionate about living in the best community possible. I look forward to supporting and enhancing the tradition of providing optimal public health services.”
The CCPHSD Chief Health Officer oversees multiple health-related programs, including Health Services, Family Health, Senior Services, Environmental Services, Medical Examiner among others. For additional information on CCPHSD, visitwww.coconino.az.gov/health<htt
