November 19, 2010 By Theresa Bierer Leave a Comment

The Arizona Technology Council in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority tonight announced the  winners of the 2010 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation (GCOI) awards. Companies, individuals and academic organizations that demonstrated excellence were given Arizona’s highest honor for technology innovation.  Tonight’s ‘red carpet’ style awards ceremony was held at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The Global Competitiveness Leadership award went to Michael Manson, co-founder and CEO of Motor Excellence, LLC based in Flagstaff.  Manson has co-founded several companies including PetSmart and Brookstone Ventures, a diversified land development and angel investment firm.  Manson has developed several patents and received the U.S. Presidential Award for Excellence in Environmental Design.

ME, or Motor Excellence, LLC., is receiving a lot of attention for its e-bike, an electric bike using innovative, clean technology.  ME’s efficient, cost effective motors are designed to reduce the world’s reliance on unsustainable energy resources.

About the Governor’s Celebration of Innovation

The Governor’s Celebration of Innovation was established in 2003 by combining two technology award ceremonies with rich histories: the High Tech Industry Cluster’s “Innovator of the Year” awards ceremony and the Arizona Software and Internet Association’s “Celebration of Innovation.” With the addition of the Governor’s support, the Governor’s Celebration of Innovation has become the premier technology community gathering of its kind in Arizona.
