Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) has selected Irwin (Irv) Bloom, B.S., M.B.A., to serve as its president and CEO. Bloom has been serving as interim president and CEO since September 2013, replacing William Bradel, F.A.C.H.E., who was named president and CEO of Northern Arizona Healthcare in August 2013.
In addition to his role as president and CEO, Bloom also will serve as an executive vice president of Northern Arizona Healthcare alongside Barbara Dember, M.H.A., F.A.C.H.E., Verde Valley Medical Center president and CEO.
Bloom first joined FMC as a consultant in May 2011 before being named vice president of Ancillary Services in December 2011. During his tenure at FMC, Bloom’s responsibilities include the oversight of the hospital’s cardiovascular, behavioral health, children’s health, therapy, nutrition, environmental, security, facilities and plant operations services.
“Irv’s extensive healthcare background and dedication to Northern Arizona Healthcare and Flagstaff Medical Center made him the ideal candidate to lead the hospital,” Bradel said. “He is dedicated to working collaboratively with staff, physicians, management and the Board of Directors to continue FMC’s commitment to providing excellent healthcare services. Irv also brings the experience and leadership to help the organization continue to move forward as a healthcare system serving the region.”
With more than 40 years of experience in healthcare leadership, Bloom’s expertise includes administration and management, physician and staff development, strategic planning, financial oversight and program development. His administrative roles include chief executive officer at North Charles Hospital, Baltimore, Md.; a vice president at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Health System in Baltimore. He also has provided oversight of major radiology and imaging practices and he served for many years as a senior partner in healthcare consulting firms. Additionally, Bloom has worked throughout the U.S. in other prestigious medical facilities including Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, N.J.; and D.C. Health & Hospitals Public Benefit Corp., Washington, D.C.
Bloom earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Baltimore, Baltimore, Md.; and his Master of Business Administration at Loyola College, Baltimore, Md.
