In an effort to educate the community about the symptoms and risks associated with diabetes, Flagstaff Medical Center, North Country HealthCare, Northern Arizona University, Native Americans for Community Action, City of Flagstaff and the Coconino County Health Department are sponsoring Diabetes Alert Day. The American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Alert Day is designed to encourage Americans to get informed about the risks of diabetes and get screened for the disease.
Participants can receive a diabetes risk test, diabetes screenings by certified diabetes educators, blood sugar evaluations, oral and foot checks, blood pressure checks, retinal scans, and shoe and footwear evaluations. Additionally, there will be a cooking demonstration and information on local support groups and programs geared toward anyone affected by diabetes including those living with diabetes and pre-diabetes, family members and friends, and those wanting to learn more about diabetes.
