Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., joins Navajo County officials and business leaders today in Holbrook for a ribbon-cutting of two county solar projects. Kirkpatrick is one of the featured speakers at the celebration of the new solar-power systems at Navajo County’s Main Complex and the County Jail.
The projects are expected to offset an average of 40 percent of each of the two facilities’ electricity needs and cut energy bills for Navajo County, according to SolarCity. Kirkpatrick will also meet with Holbrook Chamber of Commerce leaders after the event to discuss economic development.
Today’s event follows the congresswoman’s jobs-focused visits to District One communities over the weekend. On Friday, she attended the grand opening of the Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort just east of Flagstaff, which will create about 800 jobs in the district. On Saturday, she met with small-business owners across Sedona who rely on both local support and regional tourism.
On Memorial Day, Kirkpatrick joined veterans and the American Legion in Flagstaff for ceremonies at Citizens Cemetery .
Congressional District One is a massive, mostly rural district that starts at the Arizona-Utah border, encompasses the state’s northeastern regions and includes portions of Pinal and Pima counties in the south. Kirkpatrick has district offices in Flagstaff, Show Low, Globe, Casa Grande and Marana in order to properly serve District One constituents.
