The Coconino Rural Environment Corps (CREC), a conservation corps program administered by the Coconino County Community Services Department, is pleased to announce that one of their own members was selected “Corpsmember of the Year” by Corps Network. Tyler Rose was selected as one of six Corpsmembers nationwide to receive the honor. He represents more than 30,000 Corpsmembers across the nation.
The Corps Network, which is the voice of the nation’s 143 Service and Conservation Corps, will honor Tyler and the other five honorees at the Annual Corps Forum in Washington, D.C. in February. The awards ceremony will be held on February 16 on Capitol Hill, with members of the Arizona Congress in attendance.
From February to September 2010, Tyler worked with CREC’s Energy Conservation Corps program, and leveraged his successful Americorps term and accomplishments with the Energy Conservation Corps into a full-time job with local building science company, E-3.
CREC also received the Corps Network annual Project of the Year award for 2010 in the category of “Education Partnerships that Create Impact”. This award honors the collaboration between CREC and the Coconino Community College Weatherization Training and Certification partnership. This is the third Project of the Year award since CREC’s inception in 1997, and its third Corpsmember of the Year award.
Established in 1985, the Corps Network currently operates in 45 states and the District of Columbia. Corps enrolls over 30,000 young men and women in service each year, and mobilizes approximately 227,000 community volunteers who, in conjunction with Corpsmembers, generate 21.3 million hours of service annually.
