Governor Jan Brewer today named John Greene the new Director of the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR). Mr. Greene has been appointed to replace outgoing Director Gale Garriott, who is leaving to pursue a position outside state government. Garriot’s departure is effective June 29, 2011.
“I am very happy to announce the appointment of John Greene. He brings with him an extensive and credentialed background. I am expecting great things from John in this new role,” said Governor Brewer. “I would also like to thank Gale Garriott for his leadership and many years of dedicated service to the State of Arizona.”
Mr. Greene served most recently as the Chief Deputy Treasurer for Maricopa County. He previously served as Chairman of the Arizona State Board of Equalization, Director of the Arizona Department of Insurance and in the Arizona State Senate, including four years as Senate President. He has well over 30 years of private-sector legal experience, including time as Senior Tax Counsel for The Greyhound-Dial Corporation and its subsidiaries. Mr. Greene holds a law degree from the St. John’s University School of Law and an LL.M. in taxation from the New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in a number of courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the Federal District Court for the District of Arizona and the Arizona Supreme Court.
In addition to Mr. Greene’s selection, David Raber and Vince Perez have been selected to assume roles as Chief Deputy Director and Deputy Director, respectively, for ADOR.
Mr. Raber is currently the Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA). He previously served as Acting Director of ADOA; Director of the Safety and Corporations divisions of the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC); Deputy Director of the ACC’s Securities Division; Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer of Governor Hull’s Community Policy Office and Chief Accountant for the State Land Department. Mr. Raber has also held key accounting roles with Del Webb Corporation and Magma Copper Company. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Arizona and holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Arizona State University.
Mr. Raber’s duties as Chief Deputy of ADOR will include overseeing the following Divisions with the Department: Administrative Services, Audit, Information Technology, Processing Administration and Taxpayer Services.
Mr. Perez is currently the Assistant Director of ADOR’s Audit Division. He has been with the Department since 1988, when he started as a Field Auditor. He holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Arizona and received his Certified Public Manager credentials from Arizona State University.
In his new role as Deputy Director, Mr. Perez will be responsible for overseeing the following ADOR Divisions: Collections, External Services & Special Projects, Tax Policy & Research and Property Tax.
Departing the Department of Revenue is Deputy Director Kristine Ward, who will be pursuing other opportunities.
