The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded $45,000 to North Country HealthCare to increase awareness about breast cancer and help women receive healthcare services.
“We are proud that the Avon Foundation for Women shares our mission and has chosen to support our program,” said North Country HealthCare Well Woman HealthCheck Program Manager Elizabeth Markona. “These funds allow us to provide breast health education throughout Coconino and Navajo counties and link woman to free and low-cost breast cancer screening services in their communities.”
Since January 2000, the Well Woman HealthCheck Program has reached more than 48,000 women with information about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and has referred more than 9,000 women for mammograms and clinical breast exams.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in the United States, and the leading single cause of death overall in women between the ages of 40 and 55. FBN
