 Angie Bray-Widner has been dabbling in art since her high school days in Illinois. But it wasn’t until she retired from an almost 20 year career as a Certified Public Accountant did she find her way back to her creative side.
Bray-Widner’s artwork, titled “Mixed Company” was recently selected as the signature art piece in Coconino Community College’s 11th annual Palette to Palate signature fundraising event. “Mixed Company” will be auctioned at the event. Proceeds from Palette to Palate benefit the College’s Fine Arts Department. Money raised assists Fine Arts students with travel, scholarships and equipment.
Palette to Palate is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 26 in the V. Philip Tullar Commons, CCC Lone Tree campus. The evening consists of great food from some of the best restaurants in Flagstaff, silent and live art auctions and entertainment by CCC Fine Arts students.
This event is sponsored by Flagstaff Medical Center and Sunwest Bank.
Ticket prices are $40 for general admission, $70 for couples, and $20 for students. The annual fundraising event is truly one of Flagstaff’s signature art events and has grown over the years, thanks to great community participation and support to keep Northern Arizona’s arts community vibrant. This event will feature heavy hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, gourmet desserts and beverages.
Attending restaurants include:Artisan’s Kitchen, Campus Coffee Bean, Coppa Café and Bistro, Cottage Place, El Capitan Fresh Mexican Grill, Golden Eagle Distributors, Josephine’s Modern American Bistro, Main Street Catering, Mountain Oasis International Restaurant, Pita Jungle, Southern Wines, Steel City Deli and Grill, Tinderbox Kitchen and Western Gold at the Little America Hotel. Every year, the Palette to Palate signature art piece is a CCC student’s work, chosen by a committee of community members, art faculty and CCC staff. Bray-Widner’s “Mixed Company” was created in CCC instructor Elaine Dillingham’s Drawing II class, using a soft graphite pencil and watercolor. It’s a medium that initially Bray-Widner was not comfortable with, because she tends to work on larger scale pieces using acrylics paints. But Bray-Widner decided to take the drawing class to challenge herself, she said.
“I adore Elaine and she’s challenged me to use materials I would never have chosen on my own,” Bray-Widner said.
The artist even incorporated a tiny mountain on the bag of flour in the piece as an ode to Flagstaff. Bray-Widner has been taking art classes at CCC for about two years. To see more of Bray-Widner’s work, visit happierfacts.com.
