Flagstaff’s Nestlé Purina PetCare facility unveiled a 427 kilowatt solar array today, atop the Eastside manufacturing facility.
Plant Manager Bill Calloway tells Flagstaff Business News the solar photovoltaic electric system is the largest project of its kind to be installed in a private enterprise in Northern Arizona. The 1,900 panels will leverage the region’s 300 days of sunshine each year. The solar project marks collaboration between Nestlé Purina PetCare, Arizona Public Service (APS), the Northern Arizona Renewable Energy Group, and REC Solar.
Along with a ribbon cutting on the roof, there were short speeches from Calloway, District One Congressman Paul Gosar, representatives from APS, and REC Solar. In addition, plant officials presented representatives from Flagstaff’s Second Chance Center for Animals and the Coconino Humane Society checks for $2,500.
