FLAGTAFF, Ariz. – Scheduled lift maintenance will be performed on Agassiz Lift for two weekends and will suspend Scenic Chairlift operation.
This necessary preventative procedure is a part of the ski area’s preparation for the 2014/15 winter season and involves the replacement of large components at the drive terminal. Representatives from the lift manufacturer – Doppelmayr – will be on hand and will work with the Snowbowl lift crew. The crew estimate the project to take about two weeks.
The Scenic Chairlift ride will be closed for the following weekends: Friday through Sunday September 5-7th and September 12-14th. Access to the Agassiz Lodge restaurant and other facilities will be restricted. Snowbowl Road, hiking trails and the disc golf course will remain open seven days a week. Dis golf players and hikers are advised to park below the gate at Hart Prairie Lodge.
The Scenic Chairlift and restaurant will re-open at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 19th – just in-time for the end of the monsoon season and fall colors. Normal weekend operation (Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) will carry on through mid-October depending on the forest colors.
Visitors will be able to enjoy beautiful clear sunny autumn days. Morning frosts are likely that time a year and customers are advised to wear warmer clothing. The temperatures at the top of the chairlift are 20 degrees cooler that in Flagstaff, and about 40-50 degrees cooler that in the Phoenix Valley.
Arizona Snowbowl’s Scenic Chairlift Ride is one of the most popular Flagstaff attractions. It is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for juniors (ages 8-12) and seniors (ages 65-69). Those under 7 or over 70 ride for free, as do Snowbowl Season Passholders.
