A transfer of ownership took place Monday, April 28 at the award-winning Brandy’s Restaurant & Bakery on East Cedar Avenue.
After 20 years of running Brandy’s and 38 years in the restaurant business, Brandy and Ed Wojciak retired after selling to general manager and close family friend Kelsey Drayton, and his wife Jamie Drayton.
“We want this whole thing to be a warm exchange,” Brandy said. “They’re part of the family.”
Kelsey started work at Brandy’s at age 15, before promotion to a counter position, then baker and server. This work paid his way through NAU, where he and Jamie were both music students.
Moving to Los Angeles in 2004 after graduation, they pursued corporate careers, before discussions with the Wojciaks about purchasing Brandy’s led to their return to Flagstaff so Kelsey could train as general manager.
After almost 4 years of planning, the Draytons completed copious paperwork and secured a bank loan. Kelsey will continue to operate the restaurant as owner, supervising 22 employees, while Jamie will help with marketing and finances.
The couple will keep the Brandy’s name, continue the famous on-site art exhibits and make no immediate changes in operation.
“We want to keep the legacy alive,” Jamie said.
