Gioia Goodrum of the Williams Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the Coconino Community College District Governing Board.
Coconino County Superintendent of Schools Robert Kelty appointed Goodrum to serve after CCC District Governing Board member Jack Hadley resigned in November. Goodrum’s term will run through Dec. 31, 2014. Kelty swore in Goodrum at the Jan. 28 governing board meeting.
“I’m honored to be a member of the CCC District Governing Board,” Goodrum said. “Although there are challenges ahead, I am confident the Board and the administration will provide a strong plan for the future of CCC. I look forward to serving the College and our community.”
The role of the five-member CCC District Governing Board is to govern on behalf of the citizens of Coconino County. Responsibilities include: hiring, evaluating and supporting the College President as the institutional leader, monitoring the fiscal health of the College, setting and monitoring policy direction such as community needs and high quality programs and advocating for the College.
Prior to joining the Chamber in 2011, Goodrum was a career and academic advisor and adjunct faculty at Yavapai College, Verde Valley campus. In addition she has experience in the career services departments at Brandeis University, Bentley College and Simmons College. She has worked for Coopers and Lybrand as an auditor focusing on non-profit organizations and investment firms and for the management consulting firm Arthur D. Little in the human resources department. She also spent a decade working as a professional chef.
Goodrum holds an MBA from Simmons College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston University. She is a graduate of Verde Valley Leadership Program and expects to complete a certificate in organization management in 2015 from the Institute for Organization Management.
In other District Governing Board news, Patrick Hurley was re-elected Board Chair at the Jan. 28 meeting. Board member Patty Garcia was elected Vice Chair/Secretary, replacing board member Nat White. Garcia was re-elected as Alliance representative. Board member Lloyd Hammonds was re-elected as Arizona Association of District Governing Boards representative. Goodrum was elected as CCC Foundation Board representative, a position Hadley held.
