B of A Granting $10K to Local Agency

December 15, 2011 By techsuperadmin Leave a Comment

BOTHANDS, Inc., a HUD-approved nonprofit counseling agency, today announced it has received a $10,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The funds will be used to provide direct housing counseling and education services to local families across northern Arizona. Through ongoing counseling programs BOTHANDS helps first-time homebuyers prepare for homeownership and navigate the home-purchase process. The agency also continues to provide foreclosure mitigation counseling services, helping families to maintain homeownership, if possible, or mitigate the impacts of foreclosure on their families if they are unable to save their home.

“Funding from Bank of America  is critical to ensuring BOTHANDS can help families today and tomorrow to find and keep affordable housing,” said Devonna McLaughlin, BOTHANDS Executive Director. “With federal funding cuts impacting our counseling budget, this grant  is essential to continuing our work. We are pleased to have Bank of America as a partner with financial support as well as volunteer support from the bank – local representatives have volunteered their time to serve on BOTHANDS’ committees and to teach homebuyer education classes.”

The need for safe, decent and affordable workforce housing continues in Flagstaff despite housing price decreases over the past few years. The Housing Index shows that housing prices in Flagstaff are 46% higher than the national average, making it challenging for low-income families to purchase a first home.

BOTHANDS, Inc. is a local nonprofit organization that was formed in 1990 to help local families identify and maintain safe, decent and affordable housing. The Mission of BOTHANDS is to build opportunities for sustainable, affordable housing in Northern Arizona. Ongoing programs include Sharon Manor Transitional Housing Complex, Homebuyer Assistance Programs and construction projects to increase the supply of workforce housing.
